Two Techniques that Could Help in Tile Cleaning

Tile flooring is mainly recommended for areas in the house that regularly get wet like the bathroom, kitchen and toilets. Tiles play a major role in house decoration and with the modern housing, tiles have become a must have. Tile cleaning is not easy however, with the right care and cleaning, tiles can last for years still maintaining their glamour. The following techniques can be used in either ceramic or faux tile floors.

Basic floor tile cleaning.

• Learn to sweep or vacuum your floor on a regular basis. This helps in keeping off dirt like dust, crumbs of food, papers or other loose materials lying around the floor.

• Tiles can be easily maintained by mopping the floor regularly or on a daily basis. Using a damp mop or piece of cloth, cleanse it in warm water and mop the floor until it's clean as desired.

• Dry the floor after any spillage. Whether water or juice, make sure the floor is always dry. This will help prevent accumulation of dirt.

• Clean up spills immediately. Juice or sugary spills on the floor that lasts long becomes annoyingly sticky which makes it hard to clean afterwards. Do not let them sit in for long, clean up immediately.

• Always clean flooring with disinfectants. But limit the disinfectant to specific or affected areas only. Too much disinfectant chemicals can damage or stain your tile floor.

Deep cleaning.

• Mop your tile floor using vinegar. Add a ½ cup of vinegar in a gallon of water and thoroughly mop your floor till desired results are achieved.

• If your floor is stained, using a 50/50 mixture of scouring powder and warm water, pour the paste on the stained area and let it sit in for about 10 minutes. Scrub with a soft brush and rinse with warm water to get rid of any paste remains.

• Tiles at times get to rust and they do not look pretty at all. To get rid of the rust, pour some kerosene on a towel and rub the rust stains off. Wash the area with warm water to clear any rust residue and kerosene.

• Ammonia solution is known for cleaning mildew on bathroom tiles. Scrub the affected areas with 50/50 ammonia and water solution till the mildew is gone then rinse with warm water. Make sure the room is well ventilated.

While tile cleaning, make sure to wear protective rubber gloves and eye safety glasses.
